We're about 10 weeks
away from Ludophilia, our favorite board games and craft beer gathering of the
year! Just a reminder it's May
14th-17th, at the Country Inn and Suites in Crystal Lake. To pre-register, just Paypal $30 (or $10 per
individual day) to tempus42@yahoo.com.
CORONAVIRUS?
We've had a few
questions from people about whether or not we're still on, given the threat of
the coronavirus infection that the world is facing right now. Let me just
say that as of today, Ludophilia 10 is still ON as planned. While we realize
that the coronavirus is a serious issue that is starting to affect more and
more people, we personally believe that it's still appropriate for most of us to
continue with life as usual with relatively low risk of serious
consequences. However, board gaming and Ludophilia in particular by its
very nature brings people into a social setting with close contact, and if this
is of deep concern for you, we will completely understand if you decide that you
will not be able to attend this year. If you do make such a decision, we would appreciate it if you'd let us know in advance -- if enough people are
definitely deciding to stay away, then we'd like to have that knowledge so we can
decide to cancel officially if necessary. In any case, we'll continue
monitoring the situation to make appropriate decisions as the date gets closer.
NAME THAT BEER!
On a lighter note,
Bill Dyer has given us an update on his plans for homebrew this year. The
lineup has shifted just a bit, and for a bit of fun, we'd like to ask for your
help in naming the new beers. Bill has had a tradition of naming his
beers for board games, and we have a couple returning favorites that are
already named, but also a couple of new ones that need board game-themed names!
Here's what Bill is
currently planning:
* Two Sheep for One Wheat (wheat beer - named for The Settlers of
Catan)
* Crash & Burn (coffee porter - named for Roborally)
* A "wee heavy" (which is a strong Scotch ale) -- NEEDS A
NAME!
* A New England-style IPA (which is a hazy/cloudy IPA) -- NEEDS A NAME!
* A pineapple cider -- NEEDS A NAME!
Please note your name
suggestions in the comments to this post. Bill will be
the final judge for selecting the winners, and we'll award a small prize (TBD)
to each of the winning contributors at Ludophliia!
(If anyone else is planning to bring any homebrew and would like to get your
contribution in on the naming contest, please let us know!)
OTHER THINGS TO REMEMBER
* The game library
Google sheet is up at http://bit.ly/ludo10lib. Go there to add
any games you're expecting to bring to the list, or make a note of any special
requests you'd like to ask someone else to bring.
* We should have news
about t-shirts soon-ish. A design is still being finalized.
* If you're staying at
the hotel, don't forget to call 815-477-3500 and ask for the Ludophilia room
block ($98/night) for a reservation.
We sincerely hope that
you all can make it to Ludophilia 10, May 14-17. Whether you can come for
one day or the whole weekend, I think you'll find it to be a good time.
It's been really excellent for the last 9 years with so many fun people getting
together for some focused boardgaming time! If you have any questions or
you'd just like to let us know your plans, please don't hesitate to
email! Also, if you have a friend whom you'd like us to add to the
invitation and notification email list, please send us their contact
information!
